A must for anyone who really wants to finally understand Tung's Acupuncture

As an acupuncture physician I've always looked for more concise (simple) ways to treat and I was introduced to Master Tung's Acupuncture. All the seminars, etc are too far so I have read both major books on it but there is too much info. I have watched webinars from two prominent practitioners and afterwords, I'm still confused. I have had the pleasure and honor to communicate with Brad personally and he has been so open to sharing his knowledge and information but still the imaging aspect has been a bit foggy. I recently watched Brad's recent webinar on elotus and then followed it with his book and for the first time, this totally makes sense. Brad has presented Tung's acupuncture in an easy, concise, organized fashion with examples, points, and fantastic diagrams. As he says, it's not about the points themselves but understanding the why they go where they do. I now feel so much better prepared to utilize the techniques. Thank you Brad for your sharing and so much caring for the profession and each one of us.

Some gems, but you have to hunt for them

Brad has an excellent command of images, and he gives some very useful tips from his own experience. That being said, the book suffers from poor editing, and the organization could be improved. The tone is conversational, which is moderately acceptable, until the grammar mistakes get in the way of clarity. At one point in the book he says DO NOT needle bilaterally (in capital letters) and in another part he says it is fine to needle bilaterally. Then, at another point, he says needle shoulder points "I like TW 14 and SI 11 in particular. That is on the shoulder joint, or is it TW 15 and SI 12? I'm sorry, I forgot the TCM points. But I like these those two points..." Confusing, and I find it frustrating at times.
The first half of the book feels like a webinar lecture, and the last half consists of transcribed questions and answers from his experience with elotus webinars. Some of the diagrams are lifted from Deadman's Manual of Acupuncture (which he cites), and some lifted from H. McCann's Practical Atlas (which he doesn't). I would suggest that before you buy this book, you at least have a working knowledge of Tan style acupuncture so that you are able to make sense of the jargon and the approach.

Very helpful in understanding mirroring and imaging in acupuncture

This is a great book. Anyone interested in Tung or Tan acupuncture, I recommend reading this and also watching available webinars with the author, Brad Whisnant. This isn't a reference for Tung points like most of the other books available on the topic - it goes into the theory and explains clearly imaging, mirroring and microsystems and I have found it very clinically helpful. A great pair with "Practical Atlas of Tung Acupuncture" which you can use to reference specific point numbers.
