Intuitive Econometrics Book

This is a clearly written book on empirical data analysis that is equally valuable for both academics as well as working professionals. The authors of this book avoided matrix algebra and calculus in presenting the complex econometric models. The book stands out by its intuitive approach using many examples and without any sophisticated mathematics.

While doing empirical analysis, we often use the same kinds of solutions (or models) over and over again, and call a given solution (model) as tool and collection of solutions as toolkit. This book, a reference manual to econometrician's toolkit, explains the solution (tool) to use for a given empirical analysis problem using "Empirical Research Tool Box". Each tool box explains goal, implementation and correct interpretation of a given tool.

The toolkit covers advanced econometrics models for time series, categorical and panel data analysis.

The book presents an integrated approach on how to conduct and write up an empirical research project. Starting with data collection and management, it delves into how to describe the data, present the empirical results and conclusion.

Also Excel as the choice of data analysis tool makes this book very approachable, easy to adopt and become immediately productive even for non-statisticians. Stata commands are given for all the models in the toolkit.

This is a great book for those interested in learning econometrics from an applied standpoint. Like other reviewers said, it avoids matrix algebra and calculus, making it a great book for an applied regression or basic econometrics course for MBA students interested in making better data-driven decisions.

Good contents,awkward book

I trust these authors. Their research is impeccable. I have owned a previous edition for several years. My frustration with this edition is that instead of putting all that information into two tomes,like my old edition, they packed all that information into one very heavy, tightly bound tome. It is physically difficult to deal with this book.Copying a page to hand out for patient information is physically impossible. Maybe that was their intention, but it devalues this book's usefulness for me.

I had to stick with the old edition, which was available in two volumes for a reason.
What they do not tell you when they advertise this newly updated book, is that the printing is much smaller and the paper much thinner in order to get everything into one volume.
First I was excited to have it all in one, because it sounds really practical, but as soon as the book arrived, it was obvious that it would be hard to read and unpleasant to deal with, unfortunately.
Otherwise it is a great book, even though I am hoping for even more detailed research and substantiation in the future...

Highly recommended.
It has a comprehensive approach for the therapeutic management from a healthier perspective. It is extremely full; I found impossible to detect topics on the web in its extent and accuracy. Furthermore each treatment has a summary of the research work done so far.
You can think of using a search engine on the web can lead to the same conclusions, but it is not. There is much information with no veracity in thousands of blogs and secondly Pubmed for example, provides data, but very briefly and often not even that.
The book is very large and heavy, made to be all the time on the desk and consult it.
An outstanding job from everyone in this project, and its visible face, doctor Pizorno.

Scholarly Ramblings

This is a difficult book to evaluate. Its author is obviously a bright scholar, and the book itself comes from an invited memorial lecture at the Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 1989. There is lots of good material here about 2nd Century Christian beliefs, and quotations from many sources that can be hard to track down.

BUT, it is difficult to know what the author is up to. There is no apparent structure nor theme. He seems to jump from one topic to another with no segue. Each pericope is perfectly good by itself, but there is no cumulative effect. Even more problematic, the documentation is poor and the bibliography is incomplete.

This book may have made a very good lecture, but it doesn't survive as a meaningful book. Nonetheless the material herein is very valuable and the book may be of interest to scholars of early Christianity who are interested in the works of Marcion, Valentinus, Ignatius, Irenaeus, etc.
