About the Author
Author Barbara Dowdy-Trabke s motto is: Life is an adventurous journey meant to be lived to the fullest. Every day should be filled with learning, laughter, joy and love, living in daily communion with our Creator. Her own journey began on a farm in Southeast Missouri and continued after moving as a young bride to Fairbanks, Alaska. There, she developed her indomitable spirit and the hardiness needed to endure both harsh weather conditions and personal challenges. She acquired the strength and skill needed to be a working mother to four children, with a husband off sometimes months at a time working on the Alaskan pipeline.

Barbara began dowsing in her 20's and, over time, has increased her ability and understanding of both the practical applications of the major dowsing tools: Pendulum, L-Rod and the Y-Rod, and the mind/body/spirit aspect of the work. She came to realize that a person was not just a body with a soul, but was, more accurately, a soul with a body. She believes that maintaining good health and spiritual well-being are the basis of successful living, and is constantly building her personal knowledge base. She is a Certified Master Herbalist, Iridologist, Reflexologist, MRM Technician and Reiki Master, and member of the American Society of Dowsers. Barbara enjoys helping others journey along their own spiritual paths, and teaches classes on many aspects of mind/body/spirit healing as well as giving individual readings, and carrying out dowsing work across the country. For more than 10 years Barbara published a quarterly herbal newsletter and in 2007 her first book was published. With L-Rods, Secrets of Energy Dowsing, she shares her insight into the power of using L-Rods for mind/body/spirit healing work.

good intro

Lrods are probably the easiest tool to use for dowsing. I make mine with 3/16 inch stainless steel rods at the hardware store. I cut the rod into 3 pieces, with a hacksaw, and smooth down the ends with a grindstone. I then find $1 plumbing fittings of plastic, with a convenient expansion at one end, and I have my handle. I bend the rod, fit the short end into the handle, and then bend the other end so it stays in. I have also used brass rod. That is more expensive, but some prefer brass, Joey Korn prefers brass. A 1" drilled dowel, of handle size, with say a 1/4" hole, or 5/16" hole, and you have something that is more comfortable to hold. Dowsing tools are intuition with a readout device, as Raymon Grace says. You can use a $1 protractor, from the dollar store, as a meter, going from 0 to 100 degrees, or more. Raymon Grace has a dowsing chart at his website, I think. This book brings you to mastery with L-rods. When you want to start playing with these, I suggest a look at Techniques That Work for Me, a Mini-Course in Management of Energy for Improving Your Life, any book by Joey Korn, (for some reason i can't pull one up, you may have to go to his website), Dowsing and Manifesting, Intuition Technology, and maybe Spiritual Healing for the dowsing charts. I would google "dowsing charts" to see what people have available. Theta Healing ] is a more specialized use of intuition. Some of them also use dowsing rods. You see dowsing rods advertised in trade journals, under names like wire finders, and so on. They are much easier to use than Y-rods. Pendulums take too long for me.

Great Little Book!

This little book is packed full of useful information on how to use L-Rods. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in energy dowsing. The book's small size makes it the perfect pocket manual.

You may be amazed.

You either got it or you don't. However, if you're wondering if you can get an answer to just about any question using L-Rods, I highly suggest you check it out. Can you choose your lottery numbers by writing down each number on a piece of paper and placing each piece of paper on the floor, and then going over each with the L-Rods? You may be amazed.

About the Author

Evan M. Berman is Professor of Public Management and Director of Internationalization at Victoria University of Wellington, School of Government. Prior, he was the Huey McElveen Distinguished Professor at Louisiana State University. His areas of expertise are human resource management, public performance, local government, and public governance in Asia. He is past Chair of the American Society for Public Administration’s Section of Personnel and Labor Relations. He has over 125 publications and 12 books, including People Skills At Work (CRC Press, 2011), Essential Statistics for Public Managers and Policy Analysts, Third Edition (CQ Press, 2012), and a trilogy of books on Public Administration in Asia (2010, 2011, 2013, CRC Press). He has published in all major journals of the discipline, is Senior Editor of Public Performance & Management Review, a Distinguished Fulbright Scholar,� past University Chair Professor at National Chengchi University (Taipei, Taiwan), and a former policy analyst with the National Science Foundation.

James S. Bowman is a professor of public administration at the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy, Florida State University. Noted for this work in ethics and human resource management, Dr. Bowman is author of over 100 journal articles and book chapters, as well as editor of six anthologies. He is co-author of The Professional Edge: Competencies in Public Service (2nd ed., Sharpe, 2010) and Public Service Ethics: Individual and Institutional Responsibilities (CQ Press, 2015). An excellent primer for any individual who will have people reporting to them or who will have Human Resources as part of their function. At times, it is a bit of a dry book because it's a textbook. But, it imparts knowledge and provides case studies that allows what is taught to be practically applied. I'm glad I purchased it.

About the Author
Albert H. Teich has been Director of Science and Policy Programs at the venerable American Association for the Advancement of Science since 1990 and has held positions at George Washington University, the State University of New York, and Syracuse University. He currently chairs the Advisory Board of the School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech, serves on advisory boards at Columbia University and the Loka Institute, and is Codirector of the new Center for Innovation Policy Research and Education in Budapest. "We need to remember that the measure of a civilization is not the tools it owns but the use it makes of them." So cautioned an editorial entitled "The Limits of Technology" that appeared in the New York Times in early January 1999. A more appropriate note on which to open this book is hard to imagine.

The unpredictable consequences of technological change have long been a source of worry to society. Today, however, new technologies and their anticipated benefits are increasingly welcomed, while the possible negative impacts of these technologies are often given little more than lip service. For example, Alan Greenspan, chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Board and an individual with unique influence in global economic affairs, credits rapid technological change for the "sparkling performance" of the U.S. economy in the late 1990s. The utopian prospects of accelerating technological change - epitomized by the transformation of the Internet from a tool for researchers into an entirely new global medium of communication in the space of less than a decade - are touted by technologists, entrepreneurs, political leaders, and the mass media. Undoubtedly, we are seeing great technological progress. But is it human progress?

Very Informative

This book not only provides all the tools for a well-balanced and in-depth science/technology based curriculum, but it is also quite informative on it's own, and provides answers to many of the questions posed in other classes on a daily basis.

Technology and the Future
Technology and the Future by Albert H. Teich is a very interesting book because it is a series of essays by many different authors on many different topics. These topics range from bioethics, to culture, and social problems of technology. Because there are so many different authors addressing various topics, different opinions arise, and it is as if these authors are debating one another as you read. Some authors do specifically address other essays and write their essay in response, such as John Seely Brown and Paul Duguid who write in response to Bill Joy's essay, "Why the Future Doesn't Need Us." The book not only talks about the future, but society as well and all the problems and struggles we face. Technology can be a wonderful asset or it can push the limits of what is ethical and what is not. Technology provides our protection (for the most part) when flying, scans or products so we can purchase groceries, and tells us where to go when we get lost (recalculating...). The downside of technology comes in many forms. Deborah G. Johnson, in her essay, "Computer Ethics," brings up several ethical issues relating to technology. The first is virtual rape. This is a situation when one character rapes another character in a multi-user virtual reality video game. To me it is obvious that this is inappropriate, but who is to say that someone else might find it completely appropriate. Stem cell research and the use of that knowledge to clone humans may sit well with some, but that doesn't mean society as a whole has that same view. I think that of all the topics discussed in the book, technology ethics leaves the biggest question with no clear answers in sight. This book is a good read for anyone looking to scratch the surface of several different technology topics, written by several different authors.

Essays on the nature and implications of technology

This book is a collection of essays from some of the foremost scientists, innovators and businessmen in technological fields. They are essentially debating technology with one side offering reasons why it can be dangerous, the other side offering sharply differing views. Later sections in the book explore more current issues such as the Internet, genetic engineering and the implications of future advances in neuroscience. I obtained considerable insights into the colorful views of technologists on the social and economic impacts of their creations. One essay was Lotus 1-2-3 founder Mitchell Kapor arguing against the control of freedom of knowledge sharing ("The Humpty Dumpty Problem") and calling for a balance between too little IP protection and too much. Albert Teich has done a good job of selecting the essays and I hope future editions will include new insights into emerging technologies.
