Gardner and I really enjoyed it. We follow a married couple

This was my first by M.L. Gardner and I really enjoyed it. We follow a married couple, Phillip and Stephanie, as they struggle with their relationship and their daughter's life choices.
Phillip wants to work it out with Stephanie but she's having second thoughts about everything. My heart went out to him over and over again. He didn't deserve to be treated the way Stephanie was treating him. I understand he made some mistakes but nothing was worth making him into a target.
As you can probably tell, I wasn't a fan of Stephanie. I felt like her mood swings were no different than a teenager's and it wasn't ideal to witness on a mother. My opinion of her didn't really change until the last part of the book but it wasn't a complete 180 either. I didn't want to strangle her anymore so I took it as a plus.
This story deals with a handful of dark topics and it was rough witnessing everything play out. The situation was awful but I couldn't form a connection to any of the characters so it made it less impacting.
The timeline and writing was a little rocky. I kept getting confused on what was the present and what was the past until some certain detail made it clear. I felt like the past events could've been spaced out throughout the story instead of giving it to us all at once. And for the writing, there were so many short sentences that I felt like I was reading a list most of the time. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
The second half of the book was easier to get through and I liked that ending a lot.

Great Realistic Read

This is such and amazing story. I enjoyed it immensely and had my fingers crossed for the ending
that I was so desperately hoping for.
Phillip and Stephanie's marriage is slowly crumbling and has been for years. Their daughter Allie
has been addicted to drugs and running away since the age of 16 and it has taken over their lives.
After being neglected by his wife for quite some time, Phillip engages in some harmless flirting with a
co-worker. Things start to spiral out of control and Phillip almost commits the ultimate betrayal. He tells
Stephanie of the almost betrayal and she has all but given up on their marriage.
Phillip and Stephanie get their daughter into rehab and now Phillip is ready to put his all into saving his
marriage. A suggested getaway for Stephanie and Phillip by a friend forces them to deal with their issues.
They will either stay together and give their marriage a real chance or go their separate and continue to deal
with their daughters struggles civilly.

5* Emotional read that lifts your spirits

*whew* This couple's story put me on an emotional ride.
Her anger made sense; the hopelessness and wanting to give up I could understand...in the beginning. Then, just when I thought I'd had enough of her sharp tongue and sarcastic retorts, things began to change. My feelings about her began to change as she softened and showed her more vulnerable side .
This hero decided to fight for his marriage. THAT was what really made the book for me. I was happy to read about a hero who, admittedly, slipped at one point, but then made the decision to not give up on his family. I forgave his slip. Then he slowly, patiently brings his wife around. Brings THEM back to what's important: their love for each other and their daughter.
Lovely story.
